The Therapeutic Parenting Manifesto: Modeling Vulnerability, Empathy and Resiliency to Our Children

Components of this workshop would be:  1) “You’re a Great Kid, That was a Bad Choice” – How to build and model resiliency and help kids and parents separate the child from the choice; 2) “The Difference between Empathy and Sympathy” – Reaching and connecting with hurt kids in ways that inspire not enable; 3) “You Belong” – The importance of belonging for children and their parents; 4) “The Importance of Imperfect Parents” – Making yourself vulnerable to a child afraid to trust. The toxicity of perfectionism, especially in children with low self worth. How to own parenting mistakes and still help kids safe; and 5) “Vulnerability is the glue of relationships; Shame destroys them.” – Recognizing shame-based responses in our parenting and society, their harmful impact and how to change.
